Camp Carnival was an opportunity to get all the clubs together for a social event. Each club designed a simple carnival booth. The object was to win pinto beans, which could be exchanged for candy or Gumperts (an incredibly sweet soft drink of the Kool-Aid variety).
I don't know why Al and I opted for the greaser look. The jacket and chain I carried belonged to Al.
Chip, I think we were dressed as greasers because we were under the influence of [the Elton John song] Crocodile Rock. We were able to sing it at any invitation, or usually despite an invitation not to. Sometimes we would follow up with Texas Love Song, but that had a curse in it, so I don't think we ever sang it in front of the campers.--Al Ross.
I note that this was third session. 1974 was the year the teachers in the KCMO public school district went on strike. My memory was that we made up the days into the summer. I probably missed the first session or two.--Chip Buckner
