Alan Gumbel

Alan is sitting in front of the senior staff tent in Osage Landing. We know that it is a staff tent because of the furniture. (Campers don't bring chests of drawers to store their clothing.) The feet belong to Jim Holden, who was always soliciting back rubs that summer. The masseuse is probably Eric Geilker, whose sister Emily was on the Chouteau staff. The upraised hands are either mine or, more probably, those of our Landing Leader, Michael Wayne Moore.

The Coleman lanterns became popular after we discovered an apparently abandoned storage shed off behind the commissary that had a 55-gallon drum of white gas. It was locked with an "0536", which made it fair game to the senior staff.--Chip Buckner
